Tampa based filmmaker Julia Habchi is a Lebanese-American writer/director born and raised in the United Arab Emirates. Described by many of her peers and professors - including a Nobel laureate - as the Hitchcock of the 21st century, Habchi excels in telling thrilling stories backdropped by intriguing locations and immersive experiences. She believes in the art of producing compelling tales that keep audiences on the edge of their seats, hearts beating fast, with eyes wide open in suspense. Mixing modern stories and historical contexts is a particularly favorite topic of her’s as she blends themes of the past, present, and future to make a timeless, sophisticated story meant to be savored and pondered deeply.
Habchi wrote her first script “A Sandwich for the Witch” when she was 17, directed the film when she was 18, and edited it when she was 19. Now at 23, she is the Founder and CEO of her emerging entertainment company NightWriter Productions, under which she also manages other subsidiaries for film and music like Merlichi Movies and Hellraiser Records. At the age of 18, she attended Raindance Film School in Dubai and graduated with a Diploma in Filmmaking and Screenwriting with merit. Despite the challenges of being the only female filmmaker in her class, she effortlessly proved her value as a talented writer-director and quickly earned the respect of her classmates and instructors.
For Julia, passion for film extends beyond desire, fame or glamour, it’s a sincere obligation to keep the film industry and culture of cinema going as modern times tries to degrade it through low-quality content and lackluster productions. She hopes to spearhead the new wave of cinema as a writer-director who provides fresh and unique perspectives reminiscent of the golden age of film.
